What is a day-Gurukul?
Upanishad Vidyalaya is a proposed day-school model. Learners study through Gurukul principles during the day while remaining connected with family life. Its purpose is to bring contemporary subjects and Indian educational thought into a coherent experience.
Areas of study
The booklet includes Sanskrit, mathematics, science, Indian and foreign languages, literature and other subjects. Values, civic responsibility and practical competence accompany academic learning.
First milestone: 100 schools
The proposed first milestone is to establish 100 Upanishad schools across India. This is an expansion target, not a count of operating schools.
Further expansion and IKS
The longer-term vision is to bring an Upanishad school to each assembly constituency. The booklet also proposes Indian Knowledge Systems programmes within schools and wider participation through Sanskar programmes and camps.
